“Should we let them do it without sending the CRS? Yes”declared, regarding the farmers who are showing their anger, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, during the 8 p.m. news on TF1, Thursday January 25. “At the request of the President and the Prime Minister, I let them do it”he added. “Attacking a public establishment is illegal. Violating freedom of movement is illegal”replies Gilles Bouleau, the news presenter. “Are farmers attacking police officers and gendarmes? Are they attacking public buildings? Are they setting fire to public buildings? This is not the case”answers Gérald Darmanin.

“I am used to the legitimate bloodshed of those who suffer and do not keep a lot of money”continues the minister. “There are no double standards, we cannot compare things”he assures. “Odoes not respond to suffering by sending CRS”he blurted.

“Innuendoes” considered “an insult”

“There is great compassion and great listening to be had with our farmers,” complements Gérald Darmanin, who “Imagine that tomorrow things will get better.” The Prime Minister will announce measures on Friday, during a trip to the field, while agricultural unions plan “several blocking points on major roads, on major highways”in Ile-de-France.

Parliamentarians from the left, in particular from La France insoumise, quickly reacted to these comments. “The peasants must be respected, their mobilization is fair and they must be able to live from their work. Ms for the yellow vests, the workers against retirement at 64, the popular youth so harshly repressed… Darmanin’s implications are an insult”, reacted in particular Alexis Corbière, LFI deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis. “On the other hand, for young people, workers, teachers, precarious workers, firefighters, healthcare workers, the unemployed, the exiled, the only response to their suffering is the CRS”, also responded Arthur Delaporte, socialist deputy.
