“We can consume more intelligently,” says Cristina Cordula

Bye The Queens of ShoppingGood morning Dressing Challenge ! This Monday at 4:50 p.m., M6 presents its brand new daily show presented by the unbeatable Cristina Cordula. In the program ? Helping men and women to “detoxify their wardrobes”, that is to say, to empty their cupboards by getting rid of their imported clothes (which accumulate year after year) to keep only the essentials. A way to raise awareness of overconsumption and the disastrous consequences that the textile industry can have on the planet.

Once the wardrobe has been sorted and the pieces resold, the M6 fashion expert will put together several outfits purchased second hand for the participant. All sprinkled with wise advice on how to restyle yourself according to your desires and your body shape (this famous story of “8”, “H” or “V”), to resell your clothes as best as possible or find that rare gem at the best price. As you will have understood, eco-responsibility and savings are part of this new program supported by Cristina Cordula, who answered questions from “20 Minutes”.

How did you come to this idea ?

For years the chain and I had wanted to do something around recycling, vintage… Something about renewing your closet but without polluting, in connection with global warming. But we didn’t really find the right idea. Then came “Dressing challenge”. It’s a way of explaining that we can consume, but more intelligently. It’s for everyone because many men and women accumulate clothes, there is overconsumption. They have closets full of clothes that are not quality, that people don’t use and forget about. And the more we consume, the more clothes are made and the more it pollutes. The idea is therefore to clean your wardrobe, detoxify it, remove in particular clothes that are 100% synthetic… Then I put on sale what is wrong and with this money I complete their wardrobe with effective pieces. for them and which come from second hand. There you can find gems, quality things and at an excellent price.

So the idea is to learn to consume more consciously?

Consciously and intelligently. It is better to have a few parts rather than a lot but of poor quality. In all my shows, I have always said that it is better to preach quality than quantity. In the program I explain why it pollutes, I also advise people on how to buy in second-hand stores. I already had this awareness but I also learned a lot of things from this show.

Have you yourself reviewed the way you consume fashion and dress in recent years?

I have always bought second hand. I buy new sometimes but carefully. But I have pieces in my wardrobe that are over 20 years old! Because it’s quality. When I was a model in Europe, when I went to London or Paris, I went to second-hand shops, second-hand clothes, flea markets… We exchanged good addresses. There weren’t so many, today it’s a real phenomenon. It is in these boutiques that we will find unique pieces that no one else will have. I also sell second hand, I sort twice a year.

In the show, we hear this mantra: “detoxify your wardrobes to detoxify your life”. Like a form of therapy?

When I put my clothes on sale, I feel much better. Cleaning your closet means giving space in your apartment, in your life. Clothes can quickly become overgrown. Once I have removed all these things that clutter me, a new energy comes in, a bit like Feng Shui. We also reorganize his head. The girls I met on the show also feel better and feel like they have less weight. They see more clearly.

“Dressing Challenge” is a “detox” show but also a makeover show. An activity that still fascinates you as much over the years? Don’t you get tired of it?

It is my job ! I love what I do, I’ve loved fashion since I was little. I find that clothes really give you power, that through them we can really express who we are. You can also assert yourself in society, in your work, and be good to yourself. Through my clothes I feel prettier, I feel good about myself, and therefore good in my mind. I find it something magical. The men and women I meet in my work who are happy, that makes me happy. I tell myself that we did good to someone.

The “Shopping Queens” will not return this season. Despite its success, does this show no longer correspond to the times?

It’s not a question of not being in tune with the times. Shopping is something that feels good, it’s one of the pleasures, it allows you to clear your head. In “Queens of Shopping” we had already done episodes around second hands. It’s not that it’s finished, it’s just that we’ve been doing it for ten years and at some point it’s good to bring something new. I love this show, I had fun with it and I still have fun with it, but we wanted to come up with a different concept. It’s also important to come with this second hand because people are not yet aware of it. There is still work to do. This is a new topic in the field of shopping that we found relevant.

So the two shows could coexist afterwards?

They are two different shows but I don’t think we would do both at the same time, otherwise it would take a whole afternoon. It’s good to vary, even for me, I like to come up with new things.

Would you see yourself moving into other areas?

Why not ! I also see myself hosting other shows, yes. There are lots of areas that I like, fashion, beauty, well-being, dance… I like so many things. But this is not on the agenda for the moment.
