“We are not racists”, the volunteers who have resigned from Restos du cœur explain themselves

The news had caused a stir. Last Friday, the fifteen volunteers of the Restos du cœur de Fréjus (Var) resigned en bloc. The departmental management of the association founded by Coluche explained this decision by their refusal to help migrants.

In Var Morning, these volunteers give their side of the story and defend themselves from being racist. “Les Restos du cœur have become a real business,” regrets Catherine, a volunteer for six years, in the columns of the regional daily.

With his co-resigners, they denounce paradoxical injunctions, between a charter which provides for unconditional reception and the need for papers to register people on the list of beneficiaries. “In September, I was told you accept or resign”, continues Catherine. “We are disgusted,” she concludes, in the pages of the Var daily, which indicates that they are now thinking about founding their own association.
