Wayne Marshall inspires with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra – Munich

Suddenly it’s 1924 again, because George Gershwin himself seems to be sitting at the piano, improvising on the themes and rhythms that founded his world fame as “Rhapsody in Blue”. But that was 100 years ago. But Wayne Marshall, conducting the Munich Philharmonic from the piano, creates a leap back in time with energetic elegance in the Isarphilharmonie. Marshall enhances the piano part into a keyboard fireworks display à la Serge Rachmaninoff, including blues, ragtime, dance, and songs. Again and again the Philharmonic Orchestra takes part brilliantly, it is as if this Bruckner Orchestra wanted to prove that jazz was co-invented in Munich, with thunderous applause.
