Water use restriction measures partially lifted in the Vaucluse

The Vaucluse prefecture announced on Friday the partial lifting of measures restricting the use of water in the department, made possible by the “significant” rains that have fallen since mid-May. “Thanks to the significant rainfall that has fallen since mid-May, we are seeing a generally favorable evolution of the hydrological situation in several basins, in particular on the flow of rivers and the humidity of the soil”, details the prefecture in a communicated.

Groundwater still in trouble

“However, these rains at the end of spring have only allowed a relative improvement in the water tables”, add the State services, which underline in particular that the situation remains difficult in the basins of Lez Provençal and Sorgues.

As a result, the Lez Provençal basin remains on heightened alert, and that of Sorgues on alert, but the water use restriction measures have been lifted in all the other basins of the department, which remain, however, in a situation of vigilance.

“This lifting of restriction measures can be reviewed at any time depending on the evolution of the hydrological situation. In this context, even in a situation of vigilance, the prefect of Vaucluse calls on everyone’s good citizenship to implement these measures and to reduce their water consumption to what is strictly necessary, ”concludes the prefecture.

After a winter without significant rainfall in the South-East of France, the end of spring was marked by numerous stormy showers in the region, which also led to at least partial relief in Gard and Bouches-du-Rhône. measures to restrict the use of water.
