Water sports: These are the 10 best surf spots in Europe

Surfing is a fascination in itself. Anyone who masters it can take on one of nature’s most powerful elements – water. Anyone who has ever caught a wave on a surfboard and experienced this unique feeling of freedom will quickly fall for the trendy water sport.

But: Every beginning is difficult. Surfing isn’t something you can master straight away – unless you’re a natural. Otherwise it requires a lot of practice and patience. And the willingness to swallow a lot of salt water and get on the board again and again until you finally succeed. Not every surfing spot is suitable for beginners; the waves are often too high and the sea is too stormy and unpredictable.

The best surf spots for beginners

If you are venturing into the waves for the first time, you should find out about the beach of your choice in advance and check the weather forecast. The ranking of the online travel agent “weloveholidays” also provides initial suggestions.

The experts wanted to find out which surfing spots in Europe are best suited for beginners – and to do this they tested 50 coastal regions across Europe to determine their suitability for surfing. Specifically, they created the ranking based on five factors: wind speed, water temperature, hours of sunshine, number of beaches and number of local surfing options.

You can find the top ten of the ranking in our picture gallery.
