Water polo. Carried by its Marseillais, the French team in the semi-final of the World Cup in Doha

The French men’s water polo team achieved a historic feat in Doha during the world championships by knocking out Hungary, despite being the favorite, in the quarter-finals. Trailing for a long time in the match, with a gap oscillating between two and three goals against them, the French had the merit of never giving up.

The Blues had the perfect match defensively with a very inspired Hugo Fontani (Strasbourg) in goal. In attack, the Marseillais made the difference like the extraterrestrial Thomas Vernoux, elected man of the match and scorer of the equalizing goal and the winning goal a few seconds from the end of the match.

The Blues are therefore two matches away from a medal and will face Croatia this Thursday in the semi-final. A few months before the Paris Olympic Games, French water polo has never been doing so well in the last twenty years.
