Wassertrüdingen: Suspect arrested after fire in refugee accommodation – Bavaria

After the arson in an uninhabited refugee accommodation in Wassertrüdingen, Central Franconia, the police caught the suspected perpetrator. A 33-year-old suspect confessed during an interrogation that he had deliberately set the fire at the end of November, the Middle Franconia police headquarters said on Thursday.

The man has not yet given any specific information about his motive, said a spokesman for the Ansbach public prosecutor’s office. According to the current state of the investigation, the suspect acted alone and had no connections to the right-wing extremist milieu. The investigation is ongoing.

An arrest warrant against the suspect for intentional arson requested by the public prosecutor was suspended by the district court under certain conditions. According to the information, the man from the Ansbach district has roots in the region with family and work. He now has to report to the police regularly.

After the fire on November 23rd, the police quickly found evidence of arson. With the help of recordings from a surveillance camera, investigators became aware of the driver of a box truck as a possible perpetrator. As the investigation continued, the police were able to identify the man. The 33-year-old was arrested on Wednesday after his apartment was searched.

No people were injured in the fire in the unoccupied accommodation. Two containers and a large tent were damaged. The police put this at around 50,000 euros.
