Wasserburg: Fatal attack on doctor – suspect is said to have been a patient – Bavaria

After the fatal knife attack on a doctor in Upper Bavaria, the police say they now have a fairly clear picture of what happened and why the alleged perpetrator attacked his victim. “We already have a reasonable idea of what happened and the background to the crime,” said a police spokesman on Wednesday. However, details regarding the suspect’s possible mental illness would not be disclosed publicly. It is also important to be considerate of relatives and to maintain piety.

According to the police spokesman, the 40-year-old did not comment on the allegations before the investigating judge on Tuesday. The German is being investigated for murder. He is now in a forensic specialist clinic. People are treated there who have become criminals due to a mental illness or an addiction and who have committed their crimes in a state of reduced or no longer culpability.

The victim had worked for years in the clinic for psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychosomatic medicine, geriatrics and neurology in Wasserburg am Inn (Rosenheim district). The doctor mainly dealt with mentally ill and addicted criminals there and, according to previous investigations, was stabbed with a kitchen knife by the 40-year-old on the hospital premises on Monday evening. “We assume that it was a targeted attack,” said the police spokesman. According to preliminary autopsy results, the injuries sustained led to the man’s death.

After the crime, the suspect called the emergency number himself and said that he could be arrested, as the police spokesman explained. The emergency services also received numerous other emergency calls. The investigators are currently trying to clarify where the suspect last lived and from which location he traveled to the crime scene. They knew that the 40-year-old was registered in northern Germany, but where he actually lived was still unclear, the spokesman said. “This is still being reviewed.” In addition, forensic investigations and the questioning of witnesses to the incident on the hospital premises will be carried out in the next few days. “A lot of people work on the site.”

According to information from the German Press Agency, the suspect is a former patient of the victim after initial investigations. The police and public prosecutor’s office had only stated that there were indications “that there was work-related contact between the victim and the alleged perpetrator several years ago.” According to their spokesman, the police will not comment on details of this relationship. “We will not elaborate on this for data protection reasons and personal rights,” said the spokesman. In addition, the investigators would not provide any information about the man’s previous place of residence or whether he was known to the police.
