A researcher from Stuttgart discovers a new species of wasp – and names it after the head of government in her state. The wasp is tiny, parasitic, and has spikes on its abdomen.

Baden-Württemberg’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann lends his name to a new species of wasp. On Thursday, “Aphanogmus kretschmanni” should be presented in the presence of the head of government (Greens) in the Natural History Museum in Stuttgart. “I think it’s great that he is committed to nature conservation and biodiversity,” said Marina Moser, wasp discoverer and doctoral student at the Natural History Museum, the German Press Agency. The wasp species is also like the head of government “an important Baden-Württemberger”. The wasp was found in Tübingen and researched in Stuttgart. A model of the new wasp species is to be presented to Kretschmann on Thursday.
