War in Ukraine: Was Emmanuel Macron really the target of an assassination attempt?

(franceinfo)

On social networks, a video featuring journalist Julien Fanciulli claims that the head of state was the target of an assassination attempt in Ukraine. Is it true ?

A video on social networks ensures that Emmanuel Macron was “forced to cancel his visit to Ukraine following a deadly provocation against him”. In an extract, presented as an extract from a newspaper from the France24 channel, the presenter, Julien Fanciulli, therefore affirms that the head of state was the target of an assassination attempt. If these are indeed images from a newspaper presented that day, he never said these words. “I never said that on the air. They modulated my voice, made a synth that doesn’t exist in our typology, and added images that we never broadcast on the air”affirms the latter, met by franceinfo.

A video faked by artificial intelligence

This is a deep fake, a video faked by artificial intelligence. Several details may be of concern, starting with the poor quality of the extract. The movement of the lips also doesn’t really correspond to the words spoken. Some formulations also sound like automatic translation. The fake video appeared on February 13, on pro-Russian Telegram accounts. The rumor then spread more widely on X, where it was even relayed by the former Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev. The Élysée was forced to deny the rumor. Emmanuel Macron confirmed at a press conference that he would go to Ukraine before mid-March.
