The strikes in Munich continue: This Thursday, the service company Verdi is calling on companies and departments that have not yet been on strike to stop work. These include among others Job centre and employment agency, District administration and building department, Urban Burial and Munich city drainage (MSE).
The strikers gather at 11 a.m. on Mariahilfplatz for a rally. In the collective bargaining for the 2.5 million employees in the public sector, the unions are demanding 10.5 percent more salary, but at least 500 euros, for a period of twelve months. Employers are offering five percent more wages for 27 months.
Verdi rejects this offer in view of the high price increases in the past and current year, which would have pushed employees to their financial limits and in some cases even existential difficulties. In addition, the staff in the Munich metropolitan area are suffering from the consequences of the many vacancies. It is difficult to estimate how much the strike will affect the companies and their customers, as it is unclear how willing people will be to go on strike.
On Friday they are Security staff at Munich Airport called for a warning strike. Travelers have to expect longer waiting times as a result. “Passengers are therefore advised to get to the airport earlier,” the service union said on Wednesday. Flight cancellations are not to be expected. The warning strike is expected to last from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Around 100 early shift employees from the Munich security company are then expected to attend the rally. The company of the Free State is responsible for the passenger and baggage checks.
