Warning strike ended: Lufthansa can take off again

The warning strike by the ground staff at Lufthansa ends in the early morning – the airline is now hoping for smooth air traffic today. Transport Minister Wissing appealed to the parties to the collective bargaining agreement to come to an agreement quickly.

After the warning strike by the ground staff with more than 1000 flight cancellations, Lufthansa wants to start again. There are no scheduled flight cancellations, a company spokeswoman said on Wednesday. The ver.di strike was not officially supposed to end until 6 a.m., but the union had already announced that it would no longer actively mobilize in the early hours of the morning.

Holidays in the south exacerbate the situation

Lufthansa is therefore hoping to get the first flight wave in the morning without cancellations if possible. Busy days are expected at the airports as Baden-Württemberg has already started its summer holidays and Bavaria will follow at the weekend. ver.di had ruled out further industrial action before the next round of negotiations.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Lufthansa canceled more than 1,000 flights with 134,000 affected passengers at the Munich and Frankfurt hubs. ver.di had called around 20,000 ground staff on a warning strike in order to put pressure on the salary negotiations.

Wissing demands quick agreement

Meanwhile, Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing called on ver.di and Lufthansa to quickly resolve the collective bargaining war. “Responsible and fast negotiation is appropriate after air traffic already has enough problems to deal with,” said the FDP politician to “Bild”. However, he emphasized that the conflict had to be resolved “within the framework of collective bargaining autonomy”.
