War in Ukraine: Sting reinterprets his song “Russians”

Singer Sting performed his hit Russians on Instagram, in support of Ukrainians and Russians who are rising up against the war.

Released in 1985 during the Cold War, “Russians” was removed from Sting’s repertoire. “I never thought this song would be relevant again,” he lamented on the social network.

“In light of one man’s bloody and terribly misguided decision to invade a peaceful, non-threatening neighbor, this song is, once again, a plea for our humanity,” Sting explained, accompanied simply by a cello. “We, all of us, love our children. Let’s stop the war.”

The singer hopes his performance will raise funds for the Ukrainians, including medicines and basic necessities.

Taken from the first solo album by Sting, “Russians” is a pacifist song. “We share the same biology / Regardless of our ideologies,” she chants.
