According to a New York Times report, Russian military officials are said to have been so frustrated by failures in Ukraine that they discussed tactical nuclear weapons. Washington is worried.

According to a media report, high-ranking Russian military officials have discussed scenarios for the possible use of a tactical nuclear weapon in the Ukraine war.

The “New York Times” reported on Wednesday, citing unspecified US officials, that senior Russian military officials had discussed when and how Moscow might use a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin was not involved in the discussions.

And there is still no evidence that Moscow is actually taking steps in this direction, the New York Times quoted the officials as saying. The information that this had been discussed at high levels in the Russian military nevertheless raised concerns among the US government and other allies.

Intelligence information about those talks was shared within the US government in mid-October, the report said. It shows how frustrated Russian generals are about military failures in Ukraine.
