According to Ukraine, several people have been killed in Russian rocket attacks in the cities of Cherson and Kharkiv. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has made it clear that further arms deliveries from the West mean further escalation.

At least five people have been killed in Russian airstrikes on cities in eastern and southern Ukraine, according to the government in Kyiv. At least three people were killed and six injured in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, local authorities said.

According to Kyiv fired on civilian targets

In Kharkiv in the east of the country, the Russian army bombed a four-story apartment building, according to Governor Oleg Synegubov. An elderly woman was killed in the attack and at least three people were injured. Rescuers searched the rubble for other possible victims.

“Enemy artillery shelled the residential areas of the city,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a video message on Sunday evening. Civilian facilities were damaged, including the regional hospital, a school, a post office, a bank and residential buildings. The Russian army “brutally bombed Cherson all day long”.

Moscow laments victims in Zaporizhia

In the Zaporizhia region, where there had been little change at the front for several months, Ukraine used a Himars multiple rocket launcher to attack a railway bridge over the Molochnaya River, Moscow-appointed regional chief Yevgeny Balitsky said in online networks. Four employees of the railway were killed and five others were injured.

The Kremlin has meanwhile commented on the announced further arms deliveries: “Ukraine is demanding new weapons and the West is encouraging such demands,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in a telephone press conference. Western weapons would not stop Russia. “It is a dead end, leading to significant escalation and making NATO countries increasingly involved in the conflict.”
