War in the Middle East: How I feel Guest article by Amir Teicher – Culture

1. Last night a siren went off and we received a warning on our cell phones that a manned and armed drone had entered our area. We rushed to our shelter and locked ourselves in. We are my wife and I and the three children, my brother-in-law with his wife and son and my mother-in-law with her new partner. A small room, six adults, four children. The children know nothing about what happened on October 7th, they know there is war and sirens and rockets, but we have blocked all channels that could have informed them about the murders and the kidnappings. However, we, the adults, know about it and have actually asked ourselves where it would be safer, here in the north of Israel in the southern Galilee or at home in Tel Aviv, where we have no shelter and the probability of being hit by a rocket , is quite high – but the risk of being murdered or kidnapped is rather low.
