War in the Middle East: Europe, the USA and the consequences of disinterest – Opinion

Europe and the USA thought that any effort in this part of the world would lead to nothing anyway. Israel thought it could reconcile with its Arab neighbors without having to think about the Palestinians. Hamas’ crimes show what this leads to.

So much about this war in the Middle East is egregiously new, unprecedented, as it is often said. So much is terribly familiar. The number of Israeli victims murdered on Israeli soil in their homes, kibbutzim and at the rave festival “Tribe of Nova” is certainly unprecedented. A marginal aspect in view of these crimes, but still astonishing, is the terrorists’ resort to analogue communication, to pieces of paper and intermediaries, with which they circumvented the interception techniques of the high-tech nation of Israel.
