All-round talent Elon Musk not only builds electric cars. He also wants to have a say in political issues. After a tweet about the war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian President is now also intervening.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has interfered in the Twitter debate about a peace scenario for Ukraine by US billionaire Elon Musk. “Which Elon Musk do you like more? The Ukraine supporter or the Russia supporter,” asked the head of state on Twitter on Monday. Within a short time, several hundred thousand people took part in the survey. Over 90 percent preferred the Ukraine-supporting Musk.
A heated argument had previously broken out over Musk’s scenario for the end of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The US billionaire had designed a neutral status for Ukraine, the renunciation of the Crimean Peninsula and referenda under UN supervision on the state affiliation of the Russian-occupied territories as an image. After indignant replies from Kyiv, the 51-year-old once again put up a choice on the state affiliation of the people of Crimea and Donbass for debate. Musk believes that Ukraine’s victory in the ongoing war is unlikely because Russia’s population is three times higher. Due to the high number of casualties, a “total war” is also not very desirable.
The leadership in Kyiv, on the other hand, is aiming for the complete liberation of all areas occupied by Russia since 2014, including the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, as the only scenario. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba accused Musk of using the word peace as a euphemism for the formula “Let the Russians murder and rape thousands more innocent Ukrainians and steal more land.”
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 and, after holding mock referendums, is laying claim to four Ukrainian territories, some of which are occupied by Russian troops. On Monday, the Russian State Duma ratified the annexation documents signed a few days ago.
