Mercedes Benz stops exports to Russia. The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is also observing the situation in Ukraine and is now drawing a line.

Japanese car giant Toyota is halting production at its plant in St. Petersburg, Russia until further notice. The reason given by the group was disruptions in the supply chain.

Production at the plant in St. Petersburg, where Toyota mainly produces the SUV model RAV4 and the Camry for the Russian market, will be stopped from this Friday until further notice, the industry leader announced. The situation in Ukraine, which is under military attack from Russia, is being observed with great concern for the safety of the people in Ukraine, the car company said.

Toyota’s St. Petersburg factory has a manufacturing capacity of
100,000 vehicles per year. The sales business and production in the rest of Europe are not affected, as the company further announced. Toyota has been building cars in Russia since 2007. Last year emissions amounted to around 80,000 vehicles.
