Drone attacks on the Russian capital are currently not uncommon. According to British intelligence estimates, Russia now wants to protect itself better.

According to British information, Russia has deployed its anti-aircraft defenses to protect against Ukrainian drone attacks Moscow reset. “Since the beginning of September 2023, Russian SA-22 air defense systems have been positioned around the capital on elevated towers and ramps,” the Ministry of Defense in London said in its daily intelligence update. The aim is to provide better defense against drone attacks, “which the city is currently exposed to on most days”.

Since December 2022 and attacks on the Russian Engels and Ryazan air bases, Russia had also installed the Panzir anti-aircraft system (NATO code: SA-22) on the roofs of public buildings in Moscow. This is intended to enable the detection and defense of so-called kamikaze drones.

But it was probably a high-profile measure to reassure the public and demonstrate that the authorities have the threat under control, it said in London.

The British Ministry of Defense has been publishing daily information on the course of the war since the Russian attack against Ukraine began in February 2022. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
