The federal government had hesitated for a long time, but now it wants to supply Ukraine with “Marder” infantry fighting vehicles. Chancellor Scholz and US President Biden agreed on this in a telephone call, as stated in a joint statement.
Ukraine will receive further military support: Germany will supply the country attacked by Russia with “Marder” tanks and a Patriot missile defense system, and the USA with light infantry fighting vehicles of the “Bradley” model. “They reaffirmed their support for the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. They reiterated their unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in the face of the Russian Federation’s unleashed aggression,” read a statement released afterwards.

Government circles said that Ukraine should probably receive several dozen martens. Both governments also want to take care of the training of Ukrainian soldiers on the respective weapon systems.
France delivers reconnaissance tanks
The German-American agreement is the result of votes that have been ongoing between the two governments since December 10th. On Wednesday, France announced that it intended to deliver AMX-10 RC reconnaissance tanks to Ukraine.
“President Biden and Chancellor Scholz expressed their joint determination to provide Ukraine with the necessary financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support for as long as necessary,” the statement said.
