Walmart pays $3.1 billion over opioid scandal

US retailer Walmart has agreed to pay $3.1 billion to ward off thousands of lawsuits alleging the company was complicit in the opioid scandal. That reports the New York Times citing the group and local authorities. It’s about opioids that were also issued by pharmacies of the Walmart group. Negotiations about compensation are also currently under way with two other pharmacy chains. The money – a total of a good $13 billion could be raised – is to be used in addition to the payments from the drug manufacturers to finance projects to combat addiction and education. Currently, the main problem is the use of illegal fentanyl.
