Melissa McBride aka Carol will not be in a “Walking Dead” spin-off alongside Norman Reedus after all.

The planned “The Walking Dead” spin-off about the two characters Daryl (Norman Reedus, 53) and Carol (Melissa McBride, 56) has to face a severe setback. As the US industry website “The Hollywood Reporter” reports, McBride left the project. Although this will eliminate the female lead and one half of the “Walking Dead” dream team, the spin-off will apparently still be created, according to the report.

A statement from broadcaster AMC said: “Unfortunately, she will no longer be a part of the previously announced spin-off about the characters Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier, which will be filmed in Europe this summer and will be released next year.” The reason is that the filming location has been moved to Europe, which is “logistically unfeasible for Melissa at this point in time”. But one hopes that Carol can celebrate her comeback “in the near future”.

Main series ends soon

Thus, in the offshoot, at least at the beginning, Reedus’ character Daryl Dixon will probably be the sole pivot of the story. He and McBride have been part of “The Walking Dead” cosmos since the very beginning, since the dead came back to life in 2010. Since then, both stars have blossomed into absolute fan favorites. So it came as no surprise that they should be given their own offshoot.

Especially since the zombie hunt will soon be poorer by its biggest draft horse. The main series “The Walking Dead” is currently in its eleventh and final season. The final eight episodes are slated to release on Disney+ in fall 2022.
