Walkers find themselves face to face with two pythons, abandoned in a bag

The dog walk took a particular turn, on January 2, for a group of walkers. The canines led their masters, who were walking around town in Royan, to an abandoned sports bag which contained two sizable snakes inside. They immediately closed it again before contacting Planet Exoticaan animal park specializing in the reception of reptiles, which they knew.

A space popular with individuals

“These were royal pythons, a non-venomous species,” says Marc Jaeger, director of Planet Exotica. They were cold, we placed them in quarantine in a well-heated area of our center, before contacting the veterinary services, the French office for biodiversity [OFB] and the departmental population protection directorate [DDPP]. The city of Royan has issued a temporary placement order for reptiles with Planet Exotica. After 14 days, no one having come forward to claim them, they were the subject of a final placement.

Duly registered with i-fap, the protected wildlife identification service, the two snakes are now permanent residents of the Park. “People don’t get enough information in advance before adopting these reptiles, regrets the director of the Park. They are not very expressive, not like dogs or cats, and you have to know how to interpret their little signs. » Not too big and rather easy to maintain, these pythons have a certain success in adoption, in the department of new pets.
