A new star sparkles on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Number 2766 belongs to Darius Rucker. The plaque of his mentor and friend is embedded in the famous sidewalk nearby.

Darius Rucker (57), who became known as the singer of the US rock band Hootie and the Blowfish in the 90s, has unveiled his star plaque in Hollywood. Rucker brought his three adult children and bandmates with him to the ceremony on the “Walk of Fame” on Monday.

He just couldn’t believe it, now there’s a star on it Having Hollywood Boulevard, Rucker said. He could only have dreamed of this as a teenager in South Carolina who really wanted to be a singer.

In the mid-80s, Rucker, Mark Bryan, Jim Sonefeld and Dean Felber got together as students and formed Hootie & The Blowfish. The quartet was one of the big music award winners in 1996, winning three Grammy trophies. Her hit album “Cracked Rear View” sold millions of copies. The band wants to go on tour again in North America next year for the first time since 2019.

Rucker also pursued a solo career and released his first country album, “Learn To Live,” in 2008. His country hits include “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” and the song “Wagon Wheel”, with which he won the Grammy for Best Country Performance in 2014.

The star for the black musician sits near the plaque of Rucker’s mentor and friend Charley Pride. Pride (1934-2020) was the first black singer to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and became a star on the US country scene.
