The Wahl-O-Mat is now live on the internet again. This is good news for everyone who is not yet sure which party to vote for in the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein. And also for everyone who might prefer a party but would like to clarify whether it really best represents their own political views.
Elections will take place in Schleswig-Holstein in just over five weeks, on May 8, 2022. The Federal Agency for Civic Education’s election decision-making aid has been online since this Thursday. The Wahl-O-Mat is specially tailored to political issues in the north, for example there are questions about wind power and renting out holiday apartments, but also about motorway construction and asylum law.

The Wahl-O-Mat has been used before federal, European and state elections in Germany since 2002 and has been very popular with voters ever since. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education, it has been used more than a hundred million times since 2002. The offer is available as an app or in the web browser.

And this is how it works: Users are presented with various positions on current topics in the state. You can agree to this or reject it. A neutral stance is also possible. If you don’t want to take a position at all, theses can also be skipped in Wahl-O-Maten.
On the next page, parties can then be selected with which their own points of view should be compared. The user then receives the result of which parties he agrees with the most and can compare this again in detail at the end.
