VW Multivan in the test: weaknesses in detail – Auto & Mobil

The name Multivan alone makes the heart of every caravanning fan beat faster, because tradition obliges. The first T1 camper van celebrated the economic miracle on the rear-engined platform of the original Bulli, and the first Multivan made its debut in the 1990s as an offshoot of the T4 with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. And the first choice at the beginning of retirement of the former Flow Power disciples was the T5 California in the noughties. From now on, VW is even offering two different Multivan lines: the T6.1 as a sister model of the window bus and Transporter, as well as a new product, a slightly more compact variant with a Golf front end and a rear axle from the Passat. But be careful – as a particularly popular California motorhome, the Multivan remains true to the commercial vehicle genes that have evolved over decades.
