On the first day of a strike for wages and working conditions, more than three quarters of Vueling airline rotations departing from Paris Orly will be canceled this Friday. According to a representative of the SNPNC-FO, the representative organization of Vueling hostesses and stewards in France, 21 flights departing from Orly airport, and as many returns, out of a total of 27 rotations, will be canceled on the edge of the Easter holidays.
This means that 8,000 to 10,000 passengers will have their flights cancelled, the trade unionist said on condition of anonymity. Among the affected destinations are Barcelona, the Balearic Islands, Dublin, Porto, Lisbon, Rome, Hamburg, Malaga, Stockholm and Milan.
A strike covering the next three weekends of school holidays
According to the SNPNC-FO, the management of the company, whose headquarters is in Barcelona, has not reacted since the filing of the strike notice on Monday. The latter covers at least the next three weekends of school holidays and bridges in France, specified the SNPNC-FO, pointing to a “lack of recognition in the remuneration (of) hostesses and stewards”, a “significant change in schedules many times a month”, a “disconnection during rest days not respected” and “numerous errors in the payroll”.
“We are ready to negotiate, if the management calls us, we are quite ready to sit around the table, but the management does nothing, we do not even have a return”, noticed the trade unionist on Wednesday.
No reaction from Vueling management
Contacted in the process by AFP, the management of Vueling did not respond immediately. The day before, the management had affirmed that it was striving “to conclude lasting agreements with all the collective organizations in order to guarantee sustainable growth which ensures competitiveness in the market, while guaranteeing beneficial results for all parties involved”. .
While the SNPNC-FO reported the first cancellations, Vueling did not use this term, speaking of “adjustments to the planned program” of flights.
