  • A five-euro voucher at the supermarket for vaccinated people? On social networks, several viral publications are indignant at this promotion in a Guyanese brand, in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. The president of the Patriots, Florian Philippot, also went there with his tweet.
  • This operation was very real.
  • Widely criticized, especially by Guyanese parliamentarians, it was canceled after 48 hours.

“Mixture of genres and ethics reduced to zero! Is that still medicine? “In an inflammatory tweet published this Friday, the leader of the Patriots, François Philippot, denounced what is akin to a commercial operation aimed at encouraging vaccination against Covid-19 in Guyana.

The former right-hand man of Marine Le Pen, now specialized in challenging government health measures to limit the spread of the epidemic, accompanies her tweet with two photos. On the first, a person is holding a gift certificate bearing the logos of Super U, ARS (regional health agency) and CHOG (West Guyanese hospital center). On this coupon appears the inscription: “I am vaccinated, I benefit from a gift certificate of five euros. “

In the second photo, which is probably a screenshot, it is specified that the supermarket, in partnership with the two health authorities, is offering this voucher to the first 2,000 people vaccinated against Covid-19.

FAKE OFF

Despite its air of hoax, this offer is very real. On Tuesday, the hyper U of Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, in the department of Guyana, began distributing 2,000 vouchers to the first 2,000 people vaccinated against Covid-19 to present themselves, as reported International Caribbean Radio (RCI).

The manager of the supermarket, Jan Du, explains in particular that he wanted to create a “positive momentum” around vaccination. “We have to do it if we can encourage people to do it, we make our contribution. I proposed it because we know that vaccination rates are extremely low. I want it for my friends, for my employees, ”he also justified himself in the ARS newsletter, which supported the process.

However, the operation was short-lived. RCI announced Wednesday afternoon that the management of the hypermarket had indeed given up on the operation, due to criticism and requests for withdrawals from parliamentarians, like Gabriel Serville (Democratic and Republican Left) and Lénaïck Adam (LREM ).

Contacted by 20 minutes, the prefecture of Guyana indicated that the State services were not at the origin of this partnership, and that they were not associated with it.

In Guyana, to speed up vaccination, the regional health agency and the prefect lowered the age of access to the vaccine to 18 years across the country on Thursday, according to The world. The territory, faced with a sharp rise in the Brazilian variant of Covid-19 and a strong vaccine mistrust, already authorized injections from the age of 30.
