The BR Volleys got off to a perfect start in the cup final. But in the third set Herrsching makes things exciting again.

The Berlin Volleys lived up to their role as favorites in the final of the German Volleyball Cup and secured the trophy for the seventh time in the club’s history. In the final against Volleys Herrsching, the capital club prevailed 3-0 (25:13, 25:18, 25:23) in front of 10,887 spectators in Mannheim after a confident performance. The Berliners were able to defend their title for the first time.

Only around 66 hours after the quarter-final exit in the Champions League at Itas Trentino (0:3), the Bundesliga table leaders got off to a furious start against the team from Ammersee. After an ace from middle blocker Timo Tammemaa, the Berliners quickly led 8:2, later a one-block from the Estonian made it 18:7.

From the second set onwards, the final debutant from Bavaria offered somewhat more energetic resistance, but was unable to break the Berliners’ dominance. Under the direction of setter Johannes Tille, Tammemaa, Marek Sotola and Tim Carle kept their opponents at a distance at all times with their points.

When Berlin’s libero Satoshi Tsuiki injured his calf during a defensive attempt in the third round when the score was 8:6 and was briefly sidelined for treatment, the BR Volleys stumbled with a 0:6 point series. But the team recovered and showed better nerves in crunch time.
