The 33-year-old fired at a deer during a drive hunt, but missed the animal. The projectile instead hit a nearby human.
The district court in Kitzingen has sentenced a hunter to a fine for accidentally shooting a man on a hide. He has to pay 150 daily rates of 70 euros each, as a court spokeswoman announced on Thursday after the hearing.
The 33-year-old shot a deer from a high seat on January 6, 2022 during a drive hunt in Volkach (Kitzingen district). The animal was missed. However, according to the prosecutor’s office, the projectile hit the frozen ground of a dirt road and hit the victim, who was in a neighboring hunting booth. The 78-year-old died.
The prosecution accused the shooter that he should not have fired a shot in the direction of the victim – after all, he knew that the 78-year-old was dangerously close.
In the case, the court originally issued a penalty order for involuntary manslaughter. The fine provided for therein was the same amount as now in the judgment. The 33-year-old had lodged an objection to the penalty order, which is why the hearing had now come about. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
