“Vogue” comeback from Crawford, Campbell and Co. after 33 years

In 1990, the German photographer Peter Lindbergh ushered in a new fashion era. For the first time he photographed the biggest supermodels of the decade – including Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Tajana Patitz, who died in 2022 – in New York’s Meatpacking District for British “Vogue”. The picture of the five beauties went around the world, kickstarting the “supermodel era” that lasted into the early 2000s.

Everyone admired her, everyone loved her

Because the 90s supermodels weren’t just beautiful, they were true all-rounders. Every woman wanted to be like her, every man desired her. Campbell, Crawford and Co. were (and still are) charismatic, smart and convince with charisma, a self-confidence and self-confidence that no woman has had before. Whether Gucci, Versace or George Michael, who cast the five top models for his music video “Freedom ’90” – everyone wanted them.

Joint “Vogue” cover shoot after 33 years

Now – a good 33 years after their first “Vogue” cover shoot together – they are together again for a “Vogue” cover in front of the camera. The September issue bears the headline “The Greatest of All Time”, is intended to honor the career and influence of women on the world of fashion and shows the four living catwalk legends in their prime, aging but no less breathtaking. In line with this, the Apple TV+ documentary “The Supermodels” will be released in September, which will take a closer look at the careers of the models.

In order to shorten the waiting time until then, the photo series above shows the highlights in the lives of Crawford, Turlington, Campbell, Evangelista and Patitz – and reveals what the icons are doing today.
