Vocational school or high school: uncomfortable state of limbo – Ebersberg

The question of which of the two major educational institutions on the district’s agenda should be built first must finally be answered.

The district is a bit in the situation of the ferryman from the famous riddle: He was supposed to bring a wolf, a sheep and a crate of lettuce across the river – but only had room for one of them in his boat. The question here is how everyone gets to the other bank without one item being transported eating up the other. The Ebersberg district is currently faced with the question of how all young people can get decent educational opportunities if only one of the necessary schools fits into the district’s tight financial boat.

Is there a need for a fifth high school even though there isn’t a single vocational school in the district? The IHK has now asked the question, but it is not new. For a good five years, the district council has decided that both school projects are desired – but it has also been clear for just as long that both cannot be implemented at the same time without dangerously overstretching the financial capacity of the district. So what goes on board first and what stays behind, possibly for a long time.

None of the possible answers are unfounded. On the one hand there are the grammar schools, which are becoming increasingly full, especially those in Vaterstetten and Markt Schwaben, and on the other hand the young people in training who have to put up with long commutes – or who are looking for a training place closer to a vocational school.

Of course, the puzzle from the beginning has a tricky solution – but unfortunately the district cannot hope for such a solution. Building both projects “a little bit” is neither economical – the costs until reaching the goal are likely to multiply through a bit-by-bit strategy – nor makes sense in terms of education, the high school and vocational school students concerned would be on a permanent construction site informed.

Politicians will have to decide in favor of one school project, knowing full well that the other cannot be implemented in the foreseeable future. This decision is certainly not easy – but in the interest of everyone, it should be made as soon as possible.
