Vitalik Buterin Concerns Ethereum Node Centralization and May Take 20 Years to Complete

The “node centralization problem” is one of the biggest problems facing the Ethereum network and should be addressed by making nodes cheaper and easier to operate, according to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

Currently, most of the 5,901 active Ethereum nodes run through centralized web service providers such as Amazon Web Services, which many experts claim makes the Ethereum blockchain facing a centralized point of failure.

Speaking at Korea Blockchain Week, Buterin outlined six key issues that need to be addressed in order to tackle centralization. But it emphasizes that the “node problem” is something that needs to be solved to ensure that the Ethereum network remains decentralized over the long term.

“These technical issues will eventually have to be resolved. It could be a 10-year time frame or it could be a 20-year time frame,” he said.

To reduce Ethereum centralization also includes simplifying documentation, reducing barriers to stake distribution, ensuring stakes are more secure and wider. and making it more convenient to stake Ether in general.

Ultimately, however, Buterin concluded that the most pressing concern for Ethereum as a whole is achieving a higher level of scalability.
