Visiting Venice now costs admission – on a trial basis

Thursday, April 25, 2024: Venice is now accepting entry from visitors
The lagoon city has had enough. For years Venice has been groaning under the masses of tourists who have descended there. One tool to combat excess tourism should be the entrance fee that day tourists should pay from 2025. A short visit should then cost five euros. From April 25th, the city administration will be testing the model in an initial test phase that will last until Sunday May 5th. Admission is then charged between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. In addition, visitors will be asked to pay on all weekends this season, i.e. Saturday and Sunday, from May 11th to July 14th. The only exception is the weekend of the 1st/2nd. June, which is the Italian holiday “Republic Day”.
