Norah Jones talks about the beautiful things in life

Norah Jones has been a well-known face in the music world for years. Now the artist is breaking out of the pandemic era with her new album and impresses with its uplifting jazz sound.
Has been singing for over 20 years Norah Jones won the hearts of fans with her delicate jazz voice. “There is nothing better than writing music to document what you are going through,” says the 44-year-old artist in an interview with dpa. In her new album “Visions” she now gives insights into a happy emotional world.
In the twelve songs, Jones talks about the beautiful things in life – such as love. “Stay with me, I’ll just do it,” she sings in the opener “All This Time”, shortly afterwards birds chirping in the background. “‘All This Time’ was an old voice memo I found on my phone,” says the Brooklyn-born singer.
She worked on the album with the US producer and songwriter Leon Michels. “We had so much fun,” she says. “He played drums, I played guitar, and it kind of happened really quickly.” She worked on the album for a year and a half.
Idea from the intermediate realm
The inspiration for the album came to her in the moments between being awake and sleeping. That’s why she called the album “Visions”. But she also got ideas for songs during meditation. “That’s how I like to write songs, just capturing them as they happen,” she explains. It is important to have emptiness in your head in order to become creative. “I had to consciously stop listening to podcasts and music when I went for a walk so that my brain had the space to empty itself and then develop ideas,” says the US singer.
With her soulful voice, Jones has been a well-known name in the music world for years now. Her first album, “Come Away With Me,” released in 2002, quickly sold more than ten million copies and made Jones the industry’s beacon of hope amid rapidly declining CD sales.
From country to jazz
With her new album, the artist is now underlining her place in the industry with versatility and strong production. She combines country, jazz, pop and folk with emotional lyrics to create impressive songs in which every beautiful nuance comes into its own.
Her last album “Pick Me Up Off The Floor” was released during the corona pandemic and showed much more melancholic traits. You can only hear it now when Jones melancholy sings in the album’s final song “That’s Live”: “You get up, you fall. That’s life.”
With the album, Jones doesn’t want to tell a specific story, but rather leave the listeners’ own interpretation. “I think it’s special, but everyone has their own opinion,” she says.
