The star of the day is her: Virginie Efira is the mistress of ceremonies for the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival and she should be dazzling, dressed by Yves Saint Laurent, for the opening of the festival at 7 p.m. on France 2.
The very charismatic MC will in turn introduce the members of Vincent Lindon’s jury, award the Palme d’or d’honneur to American actor Forest Whitaker, declare the 75th festival open and launch the screening of Cut!, the zombie comedy by Michel Hazanavicius which opened the festival (and was released at the same time). “I try to make it short” promised the actress.
Social networks and cinema
But who says MC also says CM. This first marathon day before the ceremony, the actress will spend it as community manager of social networks of the festival (Instagram and Facebook), in order to reveal all the preparations.
The festivities will be far from over this evening for the Belgian actress, a regular at Cannes (she was in competition last year with Benedetta by Paul Verhoeven and was noticed there in 2019 for Sibyl by Justine Triet). This year again, she is defending two films (out of competition): Don Juan by Serge Bozon where she plays a seductress who breaks the heart of Tahar Rahim (in the section Un certain regard) and See Paris again by Alice Winocour where she plays a survivor of an attack (at the Directors’ Fortnight).
On May 28, at 8:30 p.m. (after the news), Virginie Efira will be on stage again and on France 2 for the closing ceremony. Yesterday at 13 hours from this same channel, she announced “not having stage fright yet but that it could come the same day”. While the red carpet will be rolled out this morning at 10:30 a.m., we hope that she will have kept her serenity before this moment long awaited by so many moviegoers.
