Heavy rains fell during the night from Thursday to Friday and continue to water Alsace. The north of Bas-Rhin is particularly affected this May 17. Several roads are partially flooded and closed to traffic. The municipality of Diemeringen was particularly affected.
The orange alert from Météo France was extended until Friday 10 p.m. on the Bas-Rhin, and the Moselle was classified red. Northern Alsace is the area most affected by this episode, including the municipalities of Diemeringen and Sarre-Union.
In Diemeringen, the town hall alerts residents very regularly, particularly via its Facebook account, of advancing waters and traffic bans. At 1:21 p.m., the entire city center was closed. “We see that too many people are still trying to pass through places that are completely flooded“, she explains.
“The danger is real, be vigilant and responsible and stay at home. Water can hide many things, pitfalls like siphons. The current can carry you away in a very short time. We remind you that the city center is strictly prohibited.”
The college was evacuated in the middle of the afternoon, 70 students were still present in the establishment. The daycare and the IME were also evacuated, all the children were able to return home. ESAT has decided to take care of six workers stranded on the site, they will be accommodated for the night. The cultural center was opened for all people who needed accommodation.
In the last situation update broadcast at 5 p.m., the Bas-Rhin prefecture indicates that “169 interventions are underway by firefighters throughout the department, mainly for flooding of basements and cellars. 68 machines, including 1 drone, and 150 firefighters are currently mobilized.”
Peak floods are expected at the end of the day and next night on several rivers : the Moder (orange alert, flood peak around 11 p.m./midnight), the Lauter and the Middle Saar/Eichel (orange alert, flood peak at night).

• the A35 between Rountzenheim and Ropeenheim south/north direction

• the D1061 between Sarre-Union and Keskastel
• the D132 between Saverne and Lutzelburg
• the D76 in HoffenThe departmental operational center was activated by the prefect of Bas-Rhin who asks citizens to move away from trees and watercourses and to limit their movements in the areas concerned.
