STORY: Historic visit to Brussels. Speaking to the EU Parliament, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy swore to Europe’s cohesion against Russia. His country is defending itself together with the Europeans against the “greatest anti-European power”, namely Russia, he told MPs on Thursday and received a standing ovation from the parliamentarians. “We defend ourselves on the battlefield, we Ukrainians, together with you,” Zelenskyi said in parliament. He thanked the allies for military and humanitarian assistance. In his speech, however, he did not mention the demand for fighter jets. Zelenskyy’s visit is part of the government’s efforts in Kyiv to obtain more arms from Western countries. A new offensive by Russian troops is expected in the spring, having recently intensified their attacks in eastern Ukraine. In the debate about the possible delivery of fighter jets, the British government offered Ukraine pilot training on Wednesday. While France is at least not ruling out the delivery of fighter jets, the federal and US governments have so far expressed their opposition.
