World war bomb explodes in Munich
Four people were injured, one of them seriously, in the explosion of an aircraft bomb from the Second World War on a Deutsche Bahn construction site in Munich. This was confirmed by the Munich fire brigade. Accordingly, the bomb is said to have exploded during drilling work for a S-Bahn line. According to the police, it was an American aerial bomb. All rail traffic around Munich Central Station had to be temporarily suspended. The site of the explosion is not far from the main train station in the center of the city. Numerous fire engines and around 50 emergency services were on site, and a federal police helicopter circled over the area. Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann was at the scene of the accident on Wednesday to get an idea of the situation. Why the bomb was not discovered before the construction work and is currently being investigated. Experts from the ordnance disposal service take part in the investigation. Bombs from the Second World War are regularly discovered in Germany and usually defused by experts or destroyed by controlled demolitions. However, there have been fatal incidents in the past.
