Video: World Bank boss Malpass resigns at the end of June

STORY: The World Bank must look for a new boss. After around four years in office, David Malpass surprisingly announced his resignation. The 66-year-old will leave the post at the end of June, just under a year before the end of his actual term of office, according to the World Bank. Malpass announced in a statement that he was looking for a new challenge. He was appointed by former US President Donald Trump and took up the post at the World Bank in April 2019. The former Secretary of the US Treasury is considered a skeptic of multilateral institutions. Last year he drew sharp criticism for statements about climate change, and there were also calls for his resignation. According to the statute, one of the main tasks of the World Bank is the fight against poverty. Traditionally, the United States is the head of the World Bank.
