Video: Wissing goes for hydrogen

STORY: The car that Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing drove to a gas station in Berlin on Wednesday was a very special vehicle. And the gas station was also something special. It is currently one of the largest filling stations for hydrogen in Europe. Half of its construction was funded as part of an innovation program by the Federal Ministry of Transport. Wissing got out of the vehicle prototype and showed how to fill up with hydrogen. “By the way, this is the first time I have filled up a hydrogen car and, to be honest, I’m amazed at how easy it is to handle. And I’m sure that this technology will be part of a modern, climate-neutral mobility mix and I’m very interested that we through clever investments and also through quick decisions in Germany show that we are playing at the top here.” With a view to the desired turnaround in traffic, the FDP politician spoke of a major challenge. Nevertheless, he is confident that it will succeed in Germany – also with the help of hydrogen. Hydrogen is considered the energy source of the future – but according to a study by the European Patent Office, there is still a lot of room for improvement in research into possible uses.
