STORY: No hope for a 10-year-old boy who fell down the shaft of a concrete pillar on New Year’s Eve in Vietnam. According to state media, the boy, named Ly Hao Nam, was pronounced dead on Wednesday. The rescue work in the southern province of Dong Thap had lasted for around 100 hours after he was heard calling for help shortly after the accident. The military was also on site with heavy equipment to save the child. The shaft was only 25 centimeters wide and about 35 meters deep. This made the salvage work extremely difficult. Now, however, the boy’s body is to be taken out of the shaft so that he can be buried. Ly Hao Nam was at a construction site with friends looking for scrap iron. He is said to have fallen into the hollow concrete post.
