Video: Verdi strikes post – union wants to increase pressure

STORY: In the collective bargaining dispute at Deutsche Post, the Verdi union is increasing the pressure with nationwide strikes. In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, all letter and parcel centers would be on strike, spokesmen for the union said on Friday. Thomas Großstück, Verdi: “We are in collective bargaining with the Deutsche Post for the employees here in Germany. And we had the second round of negotiations yesterday and the day before, the Post didn’t make us an offer again. We’re asking for 15%. That’s at the Inflation that we have last year and this year is very reasonable. Colleagues need the money to be able to cover their daily needs. They are mostly people who do not earn that much. And we have to put pressure on it now so that we can who hopefully will get an offer in the next round of negotiations that we can negotiate about. That we can talk about. On Thursday, the second round of collective bargaining between the Bonn-based company and the union also failed to produce any tangible results. Verdi is demanding 15 percent more wages for around 160,000 employees in Germany over a period of twelve months. The Post had repeatedly dismissed the salary claim as unrealistic.
