Video: Typhoon hits Japan with record rain

STORY: Typhoon “Nanmadol” swept across western Japan on Monday with strong winds and record amounts of rain. At least two people were killed in one of the strongest storms to hit the country in years, authorities said. A man was found dead in a submerged car. Another man was buried by a mudslide, the NHK television reported. In some places, rivers burst their banks and numerous buildings were destroyed. In many places, local and long-distance traffic came to a standstill, and industrial companies had to stop working. Prime Minister Kishida postponed his departure to New York, where he was due to address the UN General Assembly. The storm swept over the island of Kyushu late on Sunday and hit the main island of Honshu on Monday morning. According to the forecast, “Nanmadol” will continue to move along the west coast in the next few days.
