Video: Two hurricanes in one week: Vanuatu declares a state of emergency

STORY: After the second violent hurricane within a week, the government of Vanuatu declared a state of emergency in the Pacific country. With violent storms and heavy rains, cyclone “Kevin” passed over the capital Port Vila on Friday evening. Meteorologists expect the cyclone to reach wind speeds of up to 230 kilometers per hour before weakening and turning to the southeast. The authorities got an overview of the damage and the situation of the population, said Prime Minister Kalsakau. It was only on Wednesday that cyclone “Judy” cut power connections in Port Vila and forced residents to leave their homes. The first urgently needed aid supplies for Vanuatu are now on their way from Australia. The United Nations also supports disaster relief.
