The double-headed calf
This newborn female calf from India has two heads, two ears and four eyes. It was born with the rare disease “polcephaly,” says a Tripura State Animal Administration official. “I haven’t seen a case like this in the last 10-15 years. It’s the rarest of all rare cases. The calf’s chances of survival are very low, maybe around 35 percent.” The state had started a program to increase milk production from cattle and cows. For this purpose, cattle were artificially inseminated so that they gave birth to female calves.
