Switzerland: 11,288 candles remember corona victims

An impressive sight that was presented to the people in Bern on Wednesday. In the Swiss city, a candle was set up in front of the Swiss parliament symbolically for every corona victim on the dark December night. This resulted in a total of 11,288 lights. Simon Gehren from the “Corona-Mahnwache” movement not only looks back, but also draws conclusions for the future: “The most important thing is that we have to accept and start the fight against the virus. We currently have a policy that assumes a coexistence. But we can’t do that. Because now there are mutations. We have to prevent them in order to reduce the number of cases. The main focus should be on reducing infections. The government must encourage everyone to do so. There are many things that we can do. We are a rich and prosperous country and we have every means to do so. ” Around 40 volunteers helped light the symmetrically arranged candles on the square in Bern. The group organized a similar event last year. Around 8.6 million people live in Switzerland. And, similar to Germany, only around 66% of Swiss are fully vaccinated.
