Video: Stiko recommends boosters with adapted corona vaccines

STORY: The Standing Committee on Vaccination (Stiko) has issued its long-awaited recommendation on the Omicron boosters. The panel now advises a booster vaccination, preferably with these new vaccines. Both the booster adapted to the omicron variant BA.1 and the vaccine adapted to the subvariants BA.4/BA.5 could be used. In addition, the existing vaccines could continue to be used, which still provide very good protection against severe courses, hospital stays and death. So far there has been no recommendation from Stiko for the Omikron boosters. She recently recommended everyone over the age of 60 to have a fourth vaccination with the existing mRNA vaccines from BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna. The same recommendation applies to people from the age of five with an increased risk of a severe course of Covid. The availability of the adapted vaccines has not changed anything in this basic Stiko vaccination recommendation with regard to age. According to the German Association of General Practitioners, the demand for the new boosters has so far been rather low. They had been approved by the EU some time ago.
